The August 2011 slam will be first time that the Nelson Poetry Slam has had prizes to offer to our monthly champions. For the next year, the 1st place prize will be $25 cash, donated by Brian Kelsch from Nesbitt-Burns, the 2nd place prize a $15 gift certificate to Grounded Cafe and the 3rd place prize a $10 gift certificate to Otter's Books.

The Nelson Poetry Slam has received an arts grant from CBT to bring in six feature poets over the next twelve months. Three of these poets will be from within the Columbia basin and three from outside. Each poet will be offered a stipend in exchange for offering a short workshop and performing a feature set at that month's slam. Some travel funding is available.

March 13th, 2011 marked our final show at the Grid Gallery which is closing its doors this month. We would like to thank Michael Graham for supporting the Nelson Poetry Slam and being such a generous and flexible host. May the Muse follow you wherever you go next!

December 12, 2010 was Cocoa-Nut Lounge's closing night and, to celebrate, we gave it one final Slam hurrah. The Nelson Poetry Slam would like to thank Laura, the owner of the Cocoa-Nut Lounge for all her support, enthusiasm and patience these last few years. We all wish her well in her future endeavors.
